Overview of Fitting Options for your Upper Limb Patients

This course is designed for both new and experienced practitioners that do not routinely see upper limb patients in their facilities. The course will offer an overview of impression procedures, socket designs, harnessing techniques, biomechanics and component selection for both body-powered and externally powered options. The course will review these topic areas for both trans-radial and trans-humeral level amputations. A combination of lecture/demonstrations and group activities will be offered during the course.


Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Identify appropriate choices for upper limb prosthetic designs
  • Describe the impression procedures for both TR and TH socket designs
  • Identify the critical component selections for both body-powered and externally powered prostheses
  • Describe the appropriate procedures for myo-testing a TR and TH patient
  • Instruct the patient and therapist on the basic training steps necessary for successful prosthetic function


Location:

Join us at the Ottobock North American HQ in Austin, TX. The training will take place in our state-of-the-art classroom facility. An optional tour of the office will be available after the course.

Presenter: Gerald Stark PhD, MSEM, CPO/L, FAAOP

Gerry Stark has been working as a clinician, engineer, and instructor since 1992. Before joining Ottobock, he served as the Vice-President of Product Development and Education at Fillauer for 15 years where he directed clinical education, onsite consultation, and product development. He joined Ottobock in 2012 as a Senior Upper Limb Clinical Specialist and travels the country providing clinical education. He has a PhD in Organizational Learning and Leadership as well as a Mechanical Engineering degree.


Credits:

4 (s) ABC CEUs

*NOTE: Category I credits will be granted to certified prosthetists, prosthetics assistants and technicians. Category II credits will be granted to all other certifications.


Schedule:

8:00am - 8:30am -- Registration and Light Breakfast

8:30am - 12:30pm -- Course, followed by a Q&A session

12:30pm - 1:00pm -- Lunch (Optional)

1:00pm - 2:00pm -- Tour of Ottobock office (Optional)
